Nature, beach and lagoon: family activities to discover the green side of the Lido

25/05/2026

The Venice Lido is not only about beaches and the sea. Its position between the Adriatic Sea and the lagoon creates a unique natural environment, with green areas, pine forests, sand dunes, and public spaces ideal for families travelling with children who want to enjoy the outdoors, away from the summer crowds. Gentle walks, soft exploration, wildlife and flora observation, and playtime moments make it perfect for a slow family holiday in every season.

WWF Oasis Dune degli Alberoni: dunes, pine forest and nature to explore

One of the most interesting natural areas of the Lido is the WWF Oasis Dune degli Alberoni, a protected territory of about 160 hectares that combines sand dunes, natural beaches, and Mediterranean pine forest, with paths suitable even for young children.

Here you can observe typical coastal plants, dunes colonised by special vegetation, and bird species such as the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus) and other birds of prey in flight or perched. The oasis is open all year round and welcomes visitors who wish to walk slowly through different environments, perfect for exploration games and small adventures.

Inside the oasis, semi-desert areas alternate with wetlands and pine groves, creating diverse natural scenery ideal for relaxed family walks, birdwatching, and discovery moments such as observing animal tracks or lagoon vegetation.

Natural beaches and dunes to explore

Beyond the equipped beaches near the hotel, the Alberoni area is famous for its wide dunes and free natural beaches where children can run, build sandcastles or small forts, or simply enjoy the contrast between golden sand and green pine forest. These areas are quiet and less crowded during the low season, making them perfect for picnics or peaceful seaside moments.

Public gardens and play areas for children

The Lido has several public gardens and urban parks, ideal for a break during the day or for letting children play safely in green spaces. These areas offer playground equipment, shaded benches, and tree-lined paths, perfect for alternating movement and relaxation as a family.

Easy walks and soft itineraries

The flat landscape of the island makes the Lido ideal for walking or short cycling trips. Bike paths connect the centre with greener and more natural areas, allowing visitors to create routes that cross beaches, pine forests, and the seafront. You can also include short stops to observe the lagoon or admire local wildlife near protected areas.

Outdoor activities all year round

The Lido is a destination that can be enjoyed in every season: in spring and early summer it is ideal for the sea, blooming landscapes, and migratory birds, while in autumn the mild climate invites long walks through pine forests and almost empty beaches. Even outside the bathing season, public parks and natural trails remain accessible and perfect for outdoor family activities.
